Rob Schadt

Japanese Lantern

It’s slippery, be careful, covered with moss,
Follow the path, you won’t get lost.

Never too far nor near, in leafy cloth,
Though seldom lighted, you won’t get lost.

The stone cold, maybe rough, or smooth,
Lighted it’s warmer, you won’t get lost.

A crescent moon you’ll spy, if you step aside,
Curved as the path, you won’t get lost.

Your life has its stages, this path will foretell.
Search for your treasure, you won’t get lost.

(A Ghazal, an early Persian form of poetry…Schatz is the German word for treasure)
