Betty Aberlin

June 2019

This morning I got the e-mail about how
the secret to ageless beauty had been found in Croatia
& I read the poem that told me that
Beyoncé's 14 writers had stolen the lyric
of a song by a band called Yeah Yeah Yeah.
I heard the song called MAPS, for
My Angus Please Stay, lived by Karen O
who was born when I was 38 & then I "got" the poem
& had to write this one in which I grow so old
the cat had to reach under the tilted laptop
to retrieve the plastic hourglass to show me
how long a minute without love is.
