Trace the Light

Wild roses in late February,
saucer magnolias purpling the yard,
and Tir na nÓg emerges with tonight’s sunset.
How did I get so lucky?
A sparrow sweeps past, joins the treetop chorus.

Though you are no longer here, I think of you —
how you would have made this moment linger.
Grass cooling in the coming dusk,
your arms around me, lips whispering my neck.

For a moment, I do remember Paradise.
